--Full Spectrum Lighting--

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know

Laura describing the difference between two types of fluorescent bulbs.
Our first Open House presentation of 2005 was brought to us by Laura Black, CN.

Laura presented the little known facts about full spectrum lighting. By consolidating months of research, Laura was able to provide a concise and informative overview of this topic.

We learned:
  • The reason light from a full spectrum bulb is good for your health.
  • How to use the Color Rendering Index (CRI) and color temperature rating to determine if a bulb is full spectrum.
  • The reason fluorescent lights which use magnetic ballasts are not good for your health.
  • That when packaging states a bulb lasts 9000 hours, this means that many bulbs were tested, and the last one to burn out did so at 9000 hours.
  • Yellow light from standard incandescent bulbs can irritate nerves in the skin.
  • Neodymium coating filters out some of the harsh yellow light of an incandescent bulb.

We even learned that it is a good idea to keep the lights off when we get up during the night to use the bathroom. This is because when our eyes see light, our bodies begin to produce serotonin. Serotonin is what makes us wake up. So...if you want to go back to sleep - keep the lights off.

There is much more to Laura's presentation than described here. If you would like to have her give this presentation to a group in your area, click here to send her an email of inquiry.

What follows is the original announcement for this presentation.

Learn The Benefits Of

FULL SPECTRUM LIGHTING

SUNDAY, January 9, 2005
2:00 p.m.

Center For Sustainable Community Building
Stelle, Illinois

PREVENT WINTER BLUES/SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER!

Light is an important nutrient. In fact, nutrition is in essence the consumption of light! All the energy we take into our bodies is derived from the sun. Whether we absorb it directly through our skin and eyes or indirectly by eating plants and animal products, we need a full spectrum of light to support health and prevent disease.

Now, as daylight hours are fewer and we spend more time indoors, is the time to reconsider the lighting in your home. TRUE full spectrum lights can help prevent depression, winter blues and seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

In this presentation you will learn why we need full spectrum light, what determines full spectrum and what does not (even if the package reads full spectrum), where to find full spectrum fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent bulbs at the best prices and more! You'll also receive a Lighting Plan for Your Health and Home. This room by room plan will help you relight your home or business in a way that will support your health and make your environment a more pleasant place for work and play. We will even have hard-to-find, true full spectrum light bulbs for sale - so you can try them out at home immediately.

Full spectrum lighting provides a much whiter light than incandescent or standard compact fluorescent bulbs. Come experience the quality of this healthy light.
